Author Ferris Robinson, of Lookout Mountain, ties her books in with cooking.

Robinson wrote two successful cookbooks, then began writing her first novel, "Making Arrangements," four years ago.

Published earlier this year by Kindle Press, "Making Arrangements" is about a woman - Lang Eldridge - who survives cancer. As she is celebrating her one year of survival with a trip, her husband drops dead of a heart attack.

Though faced with many more challenges, she again overcomes.

The book loosely correlates with Robinson's own life. At age 34, her husband had to have open heart surgery.

"We had three children and it was scary," she said. The place where his blockage was was called the 'Widow Maker,' or LAD left anterior descending. It's usually fatal."

"The Gorgeless Gourmet's Cookbook," the result of his life-threatening diagnosis, was so successful, it landed the couple a spot on the cover of Woman's World magazine.

"I did everything I could to help him with his diet. I cooked different recipes and people started asking me for the recipes. Then, I started a newsletter that led to a cookbook," said Robinson.

Especially popular with diabetics, the book is full of easy, fat-free recipes, she said.

Many of the scenes in "Making Arrangements" also revolve around food - like cake, loaded spaghetti and chowder - but still share a personal relation to Robinson's own life.
