Like many locals, Daley Culberson's Christmas season isn't complete without the Chattanooga Ballet's annual performances of "The Nutcracker" at the Tivoli Theatre.

The 13-year-old Chattanooga Valley Middle School eighth-grader said she loves every part of the iconic ballet but it has been a dream of hers to dance one role in particular.

This year, Daley, who began dancing at age 3 and joined the Chattanooga Ballet at age 5, will see that dream realized.

"When I was four I went to see 'The Nutcracker' with my grandmother and mother and I said, 'I want to be Clara.' I can't believe it's finally happening!" she said. "It's a neat role because she's in a lot of scenes. It's such a privilege. There's rehearsals every night of the week. I have invested a lot of hours, but I love it."

While Clara doesn't do much dancing, that doesn't bother Daley. Besides, her other role - the Snow Queen - is one of the traditional holiday show's highlights.

"She says, 'I don't want the practices to end because I don't want to wake up - it's been a dream,'" said Daley's mom, Heather Culberson. "It's a time she will treasure, and I will too and our family also. We weren't sure she would have this opportunity."
