When Lisa Goolsby signed a lease with Cambridge Square two years ago to introduce the concept of a combined coffee shop/internet cafe to the area, she had no idea what to expect.

Her Wired Coffee business did so well, she's now moved into a new space and is planning even more expansion projects.

The renovations to her new space on Collegedale's Old Main Street, the former office space of Dale's Heating and Air, and move-in were completed in just two weeks, thanks to her baristas and loyal customers who volunteered their time, she said.

"It's got a lot of character," she said of her new location. "It's a feel of a typical coffee bar, but with different kinds of spaces for people to hide, to study, to do whatever."

Prior to the move, her shop's tables were often full and seating unavailable, Goolsby said. Church groups and others hoping to host study events in the space had to be turned away due to lack of space.

Phase 2 of the build-out of her new Old Main Street location will include an event space such groups can rent out, and Phase 3 will include a spacious deck with a fire pit and other amenities.

"It's just such a community coffee bar - a community space, more than I could ever even envision that it could be," Goolsby said. "It was really touching to see everyone chip in and take ownership and help us make this a reality.

"We have our regulars who have come over to this new space with us, but we definitely are also getting people from the neighborhood walking over with their dogs, people who didn't know we [Wired] existed."

Through her move, Goolsby said she learned the ins and outs of rezoning as a small business in a new area. She also hopes to take that knowledge and create a checklist to help other potential business owners in the area.

"... There's talk of really starting to revitalize this Old Main area and making it a really cool place to be," she said.

Now located at 5707 Main St. in Collegedale, Wired Coffee opens at 7 a.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. on weekends, however the hours may change to 6 a.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. on weekends, per customer request, said Goolsby. The shop closes at 11 p.m. daily.
