Prescription for service

Battlefield Pharmacy, at 1543 Battlefield Parkway in Fort Oglethorpe, can be reached at 706-956-8605. All calls are forwarded to owner Mike Patel’s cellphone in case of emergency. Store hours are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In need of a fast, friendly, knowledgeable pharmacist that hand-delivers prescription medications and meets with clients one-on-one? That's what Mike Patel does at Battlefield Pharmacy in Fort Oglethorpe.

Born in India and raised in Canada, the pharmacist of 11 years moved to the area to be closer to family. He opened his pharmacy a little over two months ago.

"I see all the people around here need free delivery of medications," said Patel. "They don't get one-on-one service at the chain stores. I want the customers to know me well and I want to know them well. I want a business concept similar to a family doctor, but I am a family pharmacist."

He said he employs five "P's" of customer service: passion to serve, perspective, principles, perception and partnership. Battlefield Pharmacy's slogan is "Care You Can Believe In."

Patel said one thing he is known for is giving clients the option to have a one-on-one personal talk about their medicines. He said he also assists clients in need of help with Medicare, Medicaid or health insurance provider questions through various companies.

"If it's an emergency, I reach back to them [clients that leave voicemails] even after hours," said Patel.

At the end of every workday, he personally delivers medications to clients, mainly in Rossville, Ringgold and Fort Oglethorpe.

His pharmacy's personal touches also include the option of the addition of flavoring to liquid medications to help them taste better, at no cost to the customer, he said. He offers basic compounding of medications as needed.

Patel also handles pet prescription medications for dogs and cats, and offers an assortment of health-related merchandise in his store. For example, natural herbals, vitamins and aromatherapy essential oils are available alongside Apex brand diabetic shoes - at a cost Patel said is cheaper than Amazon.

"I give the best price in town," he said in reference to his overall offerings, adding that he gives a 10 percent discount to military and senior citizens on over the counter items.
