Ringgold's Carters Lake Outfitters currently offers bicycling, kayaking and paddle boarding rentals, but the business is looking to expand both its product offerings and demographic with a potential second location in Chatsworth or Ellijay.

The store, located at the intersection of Three Notch Road and Boynton Drive at 2042 Three Notch Road, will begin selling custom poured lures, bass jigs and crappie jigs. The store will also begin renting tents and camping gear and selling firewood.

Co-owners Joe Bajner and Thad Hurley also offer activities such as local paddle boarding and kayaking tours in spring, summer and fall. Most notable is the Lake Nickajack Bat Cave Tour. Offered each weekend from Friday-Sunday for a three-hour tour for $49 a person, the evening offers a chance to see roughly 100,000 bats fly out of the cave over the heads of paddle boarders.

"You are 50 feet from the cave entrance, so they go out of the cave and go up in the air," said Bajner, adding that the tours typically run from 6:30-9:30 p.m..

And, for those looking to purchase their first kayak, the store offers a kayak, paddle and life jacket combo which starts at $295.

The store shuts down temporarily during the winter freeze (beginning in October) and reopens every March.

For more information, call the store at 423-800-4636. Hours of operation are Monday and Thursday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
