The Catoosa County Family Collaborative is bringing back Kids' Day after a year of hiatus.

The decades-long tradition is returning Aug. 3. From 3-7 p.m., the community is invited to Tiger Creek Elementary for the required immunizations and eye, ear and dental exams for students attending Catoosa County Schools.

In addition, organizer Phil Ledbetter said there would be more than 20 booths featuring local health agencies, emergency services and nonprofit organizations to distribute information to help families keep themselves healthy and safe. Lessons such as how to properly crawl to safety in the event of a house fire, taught by the Catoosa County Fire Department, and a presentation on how to stay safe while riding on a school bus, taught by safety officials with the school district, are some examples.

"We're excited to be bringing back this event," Ledbetter said, adding that the event was able to return, in part, thanks to sponsorship by Primary Healthcare in Rossville.

The program's previous sponsor was the Catoosa Health Department, but it became difficult to sponsor the event and manage several other immunization locations on the same day, Ledbetter explained.

"The whole community is invited," he said. "This will be a time for people to get good health information made available to them."

Kids and students in attendance will be able to play on inflatables and participate in games while their parents meet with the organizations Ledbetter expects to be in attendance. There is no sign-up required, and immunizations and exams are first come, first serve.
