Owner: Dr. Giang Nguyen

Experience: Nguyen has nearly 20 years of podiatry experience, with a specialty in treating diabetic patients and the resultant pain and circulation problems they have in their feet. She's taken numerous courses and classes in the treatment of diabetic patients as a resident at Harvard Medical School's Deaconess Hospital, which is among the top diabetic clinics in the United States. She's well versed in the unique and painful afflictions that can come with the disease.

Looking and feeling better: Nguyen added a medical nail salon and spa to help further treat her patients. Many, especially ones with visible or contagious issues, can't or won't go to a typical salon for a pedicure or other services out of embarrassment, she said. Nguyen's on-site salon offers private rooms and caters to unique needs for a total treatment experience.

Future growth: The success of the salon has opened the door to possibly moving it to its own building, Nguyen said. That would allow the salon to stand alone without the hustle and bustle of the doctor's office attached.

Customer loyalty: Even after infections or foot pain have been dealt with, Nguyen said many of her patients continue to return to the salon in her office rather than go to a non-medical salon. "I think most prefer to pay extra and get the comfort of a private room here," she said. "They come back a lot."

Spa treatment: Nguyen's patients can select from custom treatment options, including massages for their specific issues via technicians in the office. Medicine can also be incorporated into nail polish and traditional pedicure treatments. "We know most women here still want to look pretty," Nguyen said.
