YaoYao He thinks East Brainerd is ready for a taste of Thailand - a sweet one, at that.

He is the manager of Cold Point Ice Cream, which serves Thai-style ice cream rolls that have become popular across the U.S. over the past several years.

"This type of ice cream shop started originally, of course, in Thailand, but then once it went to New York it was everywhere [in the U.S.]," she said.

He said the local shop, located along Gunbarrel Road near Hamilton Place mall, has built a small following since it opened just before Hamilton County schools let out for the summer.

To create the ice cream rolls, an ice cream base is mixed with fresh ingredients - such as green tea and strawberry to create the Green Tea Fantasy - immediately before serving. The resulting flavor profile is different than traditional ice cream, He said.

"It's like a new fashion, a new experience," she said of the options available, which vary from basics such as Oreo cookie to fresh fruit such as lychee.

Should the business prove to be successful, a second location or eventual franchise is possible, she said. In the meantime, He plans to introduce other popular and trendy Asiatic treats such as bubble tea, mochi and more.

Cold Point is located at 1925 Gunbarrel Road, Suite 105, and is open from 1-10 p.m. daily. For more information, visit coldpointicecream.com or call 892-1688.
