A new shop has opened on M.L. King Boulevard, and it's full of retro, midcentury vintage and locally made items curated by an owner who intends to get involved in her new community.

Andie Sellers started Bettieville, a shop created from her collection of vintage items, in Rossville, Ga., three years ago at her husband's suggestion. Her personal collection was becoming overwhelming, she said.

Everything from vintage clothes, shoes and accessories to retro furniture can be found at Bettieville, along with locally made items like artwork and jewelry.

"The local-made stuff is probably my favorite out of everything because everybody puts pride in their stuff," Sellers said.

She's always looking for local artists and crafters who want their items sold, she added.

"Even if you're a student and you make hair bows in your spare time, I want to sell those for you. You go to school and make your things and let me worry about selling those for you," she said.

Sellers said she decided to open a second shop based on the growth of her Rossville store, both in terms of the items she was receiving and the sales.

"I wanted to bring my style to Chattanooga," Sellers added.

Bettieville found its second home in March. And at this downtown location, Sellers intends on hosting events throughout the spring and summer.

Other events Sellers is interested in hosting include pin-up contests featuring entrants dressed as their favorite vintage pop-culture icon, and rat-rod and motorcycle events where vintage car and motorcycle owners can come together and show off their vehicles.

All of the events held at Bettieville will be free and kid-friendly, Sellers said, and she will offer local crafters opportunities to set up booths at her events. Sellers said she will post about events on her Facebook page once she has the details worked out.
