Habitat for Humanity's new Apison Pike ReStore location offers one more way for the nonprofit to help those in need - while providing quality home appliances and furniture for sale to the general public.

The Habitat ReStore's second Chattanooga location, at 9408 Apison Pike next to Tractor Supply, is slightly larger than the downtown Main Street location, said ReStore District Manager Glen Golden.

The store accepts donations of new and used cabinets, appliances, lighting, hardware, doors, windows and more. The items are then repurposed and sold, with all proceeds benefiting Habitat for Humanity's mission to provide housing with no-interest loans to families who have volunteered to build homes and completed extensive money management courses.

"We like to say that we offer a hand up, not a handout," Golden said. "The misconception is that we give houses away, but that is not the case. And every dollar generated by ReStore goes to help the overall mission of building homes."

But the ReStore isn't just for homebuilders, Golden added.

"For those who love to repurpose, a la Pinterest, we have plenty," he said.

The Apison ReStore is open Tuesday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday until 5 p.m.
