After forming in 2016, the Hixson High School Alumni Association has been growing, but the members wanted to host something big.
With football season in full swing, the group figured there wasn't a better time for a reunion than during homecoming. Greg Martin, Michael Kirk and the rest of the association invite any and all former students and educators to the school's homecoming game Friday, Sept. 15 for a tailgate and reunion. It will be the association's first time hosting a reunion, and attendance to the tailgate is free.
"I go to every home game, and there are several of us on this committee that are old-timers, too," Martin said. "We've gone to home games for a long time and we thought this would be a great way to reconnect with old friends and teachers."
Barbecue, hamburgers and hot dogs will be served during the tailgate, which is set to start at 5:30 p.m. Martin said he hopes for a good turnout of people eager to meet up with friends from school.
"I have a million memories from my days at Hixson. These are the people that helped shape me for the rest of my life," Martin said. "We'd love to hang out again with them again. I know it's going to be a fun event."
A successful event could also spell success for the group's long-term goals of creating scholarships for Hixson High students and providing financial and community support for the school's programs, which is all easier to do the more people are interested in the association, said Martin.
