Comfort foods across the country

T-minus 21 days before we are expected to put down the fried foods and resolve to eat healthier — for 31 days, at least. According to U.S. News, 80 percent of Americans give up on their resolutions by Feb. 1.

But I digress. My intention is not to share discouraging news, but news to make your mouth water.

Earlier this year, Parade magazine polled America on its favorite comfort foods and then sorted the responses by state. The results were quite palatable. Here are a few of my favorites — which I move to adopt immediately in the Scenic City.

Alabama: Barbecue chicken with white sauce (made from mayo, vinegar, cayenne and horseradish)

Arkansas: Biscuits and chocolate gravy

Idaho: Finger steaks (like chicken tenders, but beef)

Missouri: Toasted ravioli (breaded and deep-fried)

West Virginia: Pepperoni roll (imagine a stromboli, but the size of a bread loaf)

Wisconsin: Deep-fried cheese curds

And if you’re wondering, Tennessee’s No. 1 ranked comfort food is hot chicken. I suggest grabbing a fork and sampling these dishes like they are going out of style — because they are, in exactly three weeks.
