Should you pay a visit to 1885 sometime in January and discover it closed, fear not: It is only temporary.

This month, 1885 is undergoing a major remodel. And, much like its house-cured beef bacon featured on the dreamy half-pound burger, the best things are always worth the wait.

The restaurant’s interior upgrade will be completed by Chattanooga’s New Blue Construction Company, the original contractors for both 1885 and its sister restaurant FEED Co. Table & Tavern. First, the kitchen will be overhauled with all-new appliances, stainless steel walls and new flooring.

“We’ve served a lot of volume over five years,” said restaurant co-owner Miguel Morales. “It’s taken a beating. We’re going to make it a brand new kitchen.”

Likewise, the bathrooms will become brand-new bathrooms, with new stalls, sinks and floor tiles.

There will be the addition of a lounge complete with a flat-screen TV, couches, and end tables where diners can grab a cocktail while they wait for their tables.

And finally, the patio will be strung with bistro lighting, providing an even more elegant feel to its location in the heart of historic St. Elmo.

“We are extremely blessed to be as strong as we are, and we want to take this opportunity to make things better for our diners,” Miguel said.

The remodel will be completed within three days to one week. But, like 1885’s special slow-cooked, sweet-glazed stuffed pork chop — the reward will be worth the wait.
