On a blustery afternoon, Kobe Hibachi is a hot place to be. From my four-top table in the sushi section, I watched a nonstop parade of diners enter into the hibachi grill section, separated from me by a frosted window.

I could hear and smell the fragrant hiss of steam on the hot griddles. Occasionally, the window would flash orange with fire. No doubt, the hibachi section was alive - though my section felt no less festive.

Yes, celebration is the name of Kobe's game, and this season there are a number of ways to get in on the party.

First, when you dine in on your birthday, you will receive a free slice of fried cheesecake - as well as a song, dance and drum procession led by Kobe staff. After all, birthdays are a big deal, which is exactly why Kobe plans to go all out when celebrating its seventh anniversary in February.

Here's how Kobe's anniversary special will work:

When you dine in at Kobe between Feb. 27 and March 3, be sure to keep your itemized receipt. When you bring that bill back March 13-16 or 20-23, you can exchange that receipt for a meal of equal value.

So, let's say you spend $50 on a meal at Kobe between Feb. 27 and March 3. When you come back with that receipt between March 13-16 or 20-23, you can get a free meal up to $50 in value. Receipts cannot be combined and there is a $100 limit.

The things you can spend those dollars on, including Kobe's handmade cocktails and award-winning sushi, are as plentiful and delicious as that sizzling hibachi grill is hot.
