According to Chuck Bordogna, owner of Look Out Winery & Wood Oven Pizza, his Italian Trio wine pairs wonderfully with beef.
"It is a fruity wine and enhances the flavor of the meat," he told me, sliding a sample across the bar.
The Italian Trio is made using three grapes: cabernet sauvignon, merlot and red zinfandel. It's like a triple threat to your wine experience. And Look Out Winery - with its wine collection, wood-fired filets and stunning river overlook - may just be a triple threat to your Valentine's Day.
Look Out Winery is planning two Valentine's Day dinners this year: Feb. 11 and 14. The special three-course menu will feature home-style breadsticks and Caprese salad followed by an 8-ounce certified Angus beef center-cut filet, a 6-ounce cold-water lobster tail, rosemary roasted red potatoes, green beans almondine and sautéed mushrooms.
"The way we cook the meat just blows people away," Chuck said.
Seared inside the wood-fired oven, the filet boasts hints of wood smoke. The same goes for the lobster tail.
And for dessert? Traditional Italian tiramisu, of course.
The meal is $65 per person. Or, for $150 per couple, diners may choose one select bottle of wine to enjoy with their meal. Select wine options do not include the Italian Trio, though that blend is available with a slight up-charge. But Chuck assured me Look Out's select wines, three reds and three whites, are still great wines.
Reservations are required. For those who want to catch the sunset from Look Out Winery's heated patio, Chuck recommends scheduling a reservation to dine sometime between 3-4:30 p.m. CST.
