Ate avocado toast, now I'm homeless

Recently, during a television interview, Australian millionaire Tim Gurner implied that the reason more millennials don’t own homes is because they can’t stop eating avocado toast.

Avocado toast, sometimes called smashed avocado, is a trendy open-faced sandwich featuring toast topped with avocado, salt, pepper and a spritz of lemon juice. Capitalizing on the food fad, some restaurants have added ingredients such as strawberries and poached eggs — along with ridiculous price tags, which was Gurner’s point.

I make my avocado toast at home, which is much more cost efficient — especially considering I eat it most days of the week. When Gurner’s interview went viral, many of my friends who are well aware of my adoration for avocados texted me links to the story or shared snarky memes on my Facebook page. For example, one read:

“Ate avocado toast for breakfast. Now I’m homeless.”

I responded by posting a different selfie, posed with my avocado toast, every day of the week. You won’t convince me that home-ownership is more delicious.
