In this era of less-is-more, what is the harm in giving in to a little indulgence every now and again? Try Mellow Mushroom’s spanking-new pesto garlic cheese bread — which is similar to the restaurant’s classic garlic cheese bread, featuring French bread topped with melted mozzarella, but with a little extra Italian flavor.
And the new cheesy bread is not Mellow’s only new decadent menu addition. Now, it also features the “Pacific Rim” specialty pie, made with ham, bacon, caramelized onions, pineapple, jalapeños, red sauce and mozzarella, as well as the “Sausagefest” calzone, made with meatballs, sausage, salami, mozzarella, provolone and seasoned ricotta.
“They are all perfect comfort food dishes for fall,” said LJ Knight, Mellow’s director of operations.
Indeed, fall in the Scenic City is like Mellow’s cheese bread: difficult to improve upon. But, hey, what’s the harm in trying?
“Go ahead and imagine the crisp fall air and leaves crunching under your feet while you enjoy any one of these brews,” added LJ.
New beers include high-gravity India pale ale Oskar Blues G’Knight, American brown ale Cigar City Maduro and hard cider Gypsy Circus Queen of Swords, which LJ describes as “like a dry wine with complex fruit flavors.”
Hard cider is a quintessential part of autumn, and so is football. Next weekend, on Sept. 10, Mellow kicks off its weekend football specials, which include 50-cent wings available all day, every Saturday for dine-in only and $1 select draft beers available all day, every Sunday.
New recipes, new brews, and dollar drafts — as good as it gets, right? But I wouldn’t make a bet just yet; who knows what Mellow will come up with next?
