Never mind these cold temperatures and early sunsets:

“Let’s get excited about the future, people!” said 1885 partner and manager Miguel de Jesus.

The restaurant’s staff is looking forward to spring, the season of outdoor dining, live music and a new brunch menu. This spring, 1885 will be adding an array of lighter dishes. And in the meantime, diners can sample some of those new dishes every week during Sunday brunch.

“We’ll be running specials and testing out some of the new stuff then,” Miguel said.

During both Saturday and Sunday brunch, diners can visit 1885’s recently expanded bloody Mary bar, now complete with pickled green tomatoes, pickled okra, pickled green beans and additional mixers. And come spring, brunch will be served with a side of fresh air on 1885’s chic patio, cobbled in stone and strung with bistro lights.

Following the last freeze — which seems to always occur in March, said Miguel — he plans to have the restaurant’s patio garden replanted and finalize the outdoor entertainment schedule. Weather permitting, 1885 will host live music four times a week, Miguel said.

And while waiting for the freeze to thaw, why not enjoy a cut of 1885’s latest menu addition: 100-percent grass-fed wagyu beef, locally and exclusively sourced from a beef farm in Alabama? The wagyu will be available beginning Feb. 24.

So never mind these final days of winter; at 1885, the future looks (and tastes) delicious.
