Workout at Work

Excy system lets you exercise at your desk

If you haven't already heard, sitting is the new smoking. That means it's bad for your health to be stuck on your rump for hours on end. But if you have to sit – at work, for example – you can pull out this trick machine to get fit.

Excy, a new portable exercise system, is supposed to turn your chair into a recumbent bike, quite possibly (at least we're hoping) obscured by your desk. It's also got an upper-body feature, though that might be harder to put to use in an office. Excy, which will set you back $799, is in production with pre-orders being accepted, according to its website. The first batch of orders will be delivered in March.

According to a company spokeswoman, the cycle is practical for anyone "no matter their age or fitness level" and its versatility allows for cardio- and strength-training of the arms, legs and core. It's got interval training, and the Excy app can track every workout, including its intensity.

Of course, if you're looking for more burn, take the machine home and do more there. It weighs only 10 pounds – which is probably lighter than that bag holding your laptop, leftover lunch and collection of papers.
