Blog: Techno music for breakfast is a trip

Saturday. 7:45 a.m.

The last note of Friday night Bonnaroo music ended about an hour ago. Techno in the am is a trippy thing indeed. I have to confess I slipped out of the Flaming Lips set sometime around 1 a.m. for a nap to refocus for LCD Soundsystem. Didn't make it, but did get to enjoy plenty of music throughout the morning. Right now the World Cup South Korea and Greece soccer match is on the big screen.

Yesterday was spent trying to get to as many stages as possible. The only one I missed that I wanted to see was Steve Martin.

OK Go sounded really good live, as did She & Him. Jack Black and Tenacious D played to a huge crowd on the What Stage and "Wonderboy" was everything I hoped it would be. The Nationals did some interesting stuff, but nothing that blew me away. I plan to look them up later and listen to some more from them.

I was one of several photographers chosen to shoot Kings of Leon. As I jockeyed for position in front of the stage, standing next to the speaker column was a big guy in a yellow security shirt and he looked familiar. He saw me and did a double take. It was Chris Harr. Chris played football with my son in high school and is now starring at UTC.

The Flaming Lips started a little after midnight and if you've never seen a Lips show, you should just for the opening. Giant balloons and confetti are everywhere and there is a video that I can't describe in a family-friendly blog.

On tap today as far as bands I want to see are Big Sam's Funky Nation, Jimmy Cliff, The Avett Brothers, Weezer, Jeff Beck, John Prine, Stevie Wonder and Jay-Z. Judging from the chatter, Wonder is the one everyone here wants to see.
