Location: About 15 miles south of Chattanooga in Walker County, Ga.

Size: 1.8 square miles

Population: 3,130

Incorporated: 1891

Government: The mayor is Ray Crowder, and City Council members include Randal Dalton, Evitte Parrish, Daymon Garrett, Don Martin and Lee Miller. The city manager is Micheal Haney.

Schools: Chickamauga Elementary School, Gordon Lee Middle School and Gordon Lee High School

Attractions: The Gordon-Lee Mansion was used during the Civil War by Union Army Gen. William Rosecrans for a headquarters just before the Battle of Chickamauga. After the battle, it became a hospital, where many soldiers died of their wounds, according to the city's historical information. Lee and Gordon's Mills is among the oldest mills in the state and is situated about two miles from the town center on Chickamauga Creek. The mill was built in 1836 by the same James Gordon who later built the Gordon-Lee Mansion. While the mansion was used by the Union forces, the mill was a headquarters for Gen. Braxton Bragg, the Confederate Army of Tennessee's commanding general.

Fun Fact: Holland-Watson Veterans Park's centerpiece is a Huey helicopter mounted on a pedestal. The park is named for Vietnam War veterans Sgt. Eddie H. Holland and Cpl. Thomas A. "Tommy" Watson of Chickamauga.

Famous Resident: Former U.S. Rep. Gordon Lee, born in 1859 near Ringgold. After graduating from Emory College in 1880, he was involved in farming and manufacturing. He served in the Georgia House and Senate and was elected to the U.S. House in 1905, serving 10 terms.
