Elderly woman found dead in Georgia home destroyed by fire

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A 75-year-old woman's body has been found amid the rubble left after a fire destroyed a home in Georgia's Gwinnett County.

Fire and Emergency Services Capt. Tommy Rutledge tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that firefighters responded to the Lawrenceville home shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday. He says the fire was under control by 3:31 p.m.

The woman's name has not been released. Rutledge says her injuries were consistent with the fire but her exact cause of death has not yet been determined by the medical examiner.

Rutledge says the fire is believed to have begun in a formal living room at the front of the home, which is considered a total loss. The heat of the flames also melted vinyl siding on a neighboring home.
