July 9-10:

Burn Your Half Off

Back for its second year, Run Chattanooga's free half marathon invites runners and walkers to burn their halves off. Those unable to take on the full 13.1 miles are still welcome to tackle the multi-loop course, and all participants will be celebrated with a post-race potluck. To register for the runs on July 9 or 10 (or both!), visit bit.ly/28Ls2fW.

July 9:

Market Street Mile & Ruby Dress Dash

It's not often we encourage readers to run a mile in their finest dress, so when we do, know that it's for a good cause. In an effort to provide awareness and funds for Go Red for Women and the American Heart Association, this quick run invites both men and women to strut their stuff downtown in fabulous ruby red dresses. A panel of judges will look for those best dressed, and the crowd will vote for a king and queen. Whether you're running, cheering or enjoying the post-race refreshments and entertainment, this one-of-a-kind event is not one you'll want to miss. Find out more at bit.ly/21m4uyH.

July 14:

Rock/Creek BIC SUP Demo Day

Dear standup paddleboard lovers, your day of geekdom has arrived. Rock/Creek will be displaying BIC's entire lineup of 2016 boards during its Demo Daze Summer Haze Event, but that's not even the best part. Attendees will have a chance to learn new paddle techniques, discover the value of SUP boards and even meet vendors and sales staff from BIC and Rock/Creek willing to answer questions about all things paddling. If you're looking to invest in some summer fun, then visit bit.ly/1WNt2Ci to find out more about this SUPer event.

July 16:

Chattanooga Heroes Run/Walk

One year after the tragic shootings at the Armed Forces Career Center and the U.S. Naval Operational Support Center and Marine Corps Reserve Center, Chattanoogans will again gather to honor the city's five fallen heroes and the hundreds who responded to the crisis. This 5-mile run/walk will take supporters from the reserve facility on Amnicola Highway to Fifth Street near the Challenger Center, following part of the path EMS personnel took during last year's attacks. Proceeds will go toward the construction of a permanent monument at Tennessee Riverpark to ensure that Chattanooga's lost are never forgotten. To register or volunteer, visit chattanoogaheroesrun.com.

July 16-17:

Western NC Weekend Kayak Clinic

If you're looking to break in to whitewater kayaking but haven't quite found your stride, consider taking a weekend to learn proper techniques during this two-day course. Avoiding rough waters, Outdoor Chattanooga's experienced instructors help beginners solidify their skills on a different, instructional river considered very beginner-friendly. To register, email info@outdoorchattanooga.com.

July 30-31:

Bike, Paddle & Play: Find Your Park Day

The UTC Theatre and Friends of Moccasin Bend are partnering up to bring Chattanoogans an awesome new festival - and an even more awesome way to get there. With the help of Outdoor Chattanooga and UTC Outdoors, festival-goers will be able to paddle to the event or borrow a bike to ride to the site via planned routes. To raise awareness of the urban forest, the theater group will treat attendees to its participatory comedy "Robin! Coming to a Forest Near You." To find out more about musical headliner Milele Roots, the special tour of the Trail of Tears and the costume you should wear for the play, visit bit.ly/23f4kuJ.
