When it comes to camping, there's something to be said for roughing it and surviving on your instinct and skill. But sometimes you just want to kick back with all the comforts of home. We're not here to judge - in fact, "glamping" is growing in popularity. Here are a few places to check out.

Note: Not every glamping site is child- or pet-friendly. Always check beforehand to make sure you can bring your kids and/or pooch.

Luxury cabin tents - essentially large tents with A-frame roofs - and cottages abound above the French Broad River not far from Asheville. Outlander specializes in romantic getaways for two, letting couples enjoy the pristine woodlands of North Carolina while providing amenities like clean hiking trails, breakfast each morning and fresh bedding and towels each night. The short drive to Asheville enables guests to partake in everything the city has to offer while still "roughing it" as comfortably as possible. Price: $125 - $145 per night, depending on location

Forest Gully Farms | Santa Fe, Tenn.

Just on the outskirts of Nashville lies this farm that will have you camping like Frodo Baggins from "Lord of the Rings." The facilities here are underground huts called pods, blanketed by earth and grass. Queen-size beds and a separate pod with a kitchen and dining space round out the facility, and true to its name, depending on the season, freshly harvested fruits and vegetables are available. Price: $265 per night

Elatse'yi | Elijay, GA.

Elatse'yi has several glamping options to choose from, but we're most interested in the geodesic dome. It's nestled on the outskirts of a 17-acre alpaca farm in the foothills of Georgia. Elatse'yi fuses the best aspects of camping and comfort. It will have you cooking outside in an outdoor kitchen space, but also features private bathrooms. Quiet, secluded and surrounded by hiking, biking and paddling opportunities, it makes for a perfect outdoor weekend getaway, and tours of the farm are not only available, but encouraged. Price: $110 per night
