Climbing Kickoff

Whether you prefer climbing in a costume, bouldering with bright colors or proving yourself as a thoroughbred Triple Crown champion, there's a Southeast season kickoff event to suit your preference this fall.

BOULDERAVE

Oct. 12

Urban Rocks Gym in Chattanooga plans to rock out rave style at the third annual Boulderave event sponsored by La Sportiva. From 5-10 p.m. the gym will host cosmic bouldering and roped climbing that features a light show, high-energy music and neon plastic climbing holds. The event also includes a raffle to benefit the Chattanooga Area Food Bank, a vendor showcase, a speed-climbing competition, climbing games and an after-party with live music that will last until midnight. Boulderave is a free event that is open to climbers and non-climbers. Urban Rocks Gym is located at 1007 Appling Street.

BOULDERWEEN

Oct. 27

The Southeastern Climbers Coalition hosts its annual Halloween party, Boulderween, at Horse Pens 40 near Steele, Ala., beginning in the pavilion around 6 p.m.

The event costs $7 per person and includes live music, free food and treats for the kids. Anyone participating in the Steele Fall Trail Day, a clean-up effort from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. central time, will receive free entry to the party. Attendees are encouraged to dress in a costume, bring cash for raffle tickets and plan on camping out that weekend for plenty of great bouldering.

TRIPLE CROWN

Oct. 6, 13 and Nov. 3

The Triple Crown Bouldering Series will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year with its typically tough climbing challenges for a climber that just can't be satisfied with flashing lights or crazy costumes. This year's event will kick off Oct. 6 at Hounds Ears in Boone, N.C., followed by Stone Fort in Chattanooga Oct. 13 and Horse Pens 40 on Nov. 3.
