Steeped in small-town Southern charm, Fayetteville feels like the "good old days." Its vibrant town square is complete with museums, art galleries, a performing arts theater and more antique shops per square foot than anywhere else in the region.

Thirty miles due north of Huntsville, Ala., as this town touts on its website, it's "located at the crossroads of three U.S. highways. Getting to Fayetteville is easy. It's leaving that's hard."
