No Down-Time with SculpSure® Body Contouring at Southern Surgical Arts

Now that it's getting close to summer, we all want to put on a bathing suit and feel like we've got the ideal bikini body. Most of us have problem areas, such as the stomach "pooch" or those wiggly love handles, which we have tried to eliminate. SculpSure® is an ideal procedure for getting rid of problem areas of excess fat, provided you are within about 10-20 pounds of your ideal weight, and diet and exercise hasn't helped. SculpSure® is a new, non-invasive FDA-approved technology from Cynosure that has revolutionized how we permanently eliminate fat. Its light-based technology is patented, and there have been over 100 clinical trials to prove that SculpSure® reduces up to 24% of fat in the flanks, abdomen, arms and thighs. The hyperthermic laser precisely targets fat cells under the skin, permanently destroying the treated fat in a 25-minute procedure. Since there is no recovery time with SculpSure®, patients can return to normal activities immediately. The procedure is well-tolerated, with most patients feeling nothing more than a warming sensation.

After a few weeks, these damaged fat cells are naturally absorbed and removed from the body. Results can be seen in as quickly as six weeks, with optimal results seen after 12 weeks. Only one SculpSure® session is necessary per treatment area in most cases. Another benefit from SculpSure® is the thermal energy from the laser stimulates collagen and elastin growth, making the skin look more firm and smooth.

In the SculpSure® clinical trials, 96% of the subjects were satisfied with their treatment results with their flanks (love handles), while 91% of the subjects were satisfied with their treatment results with their abdomen. It was proven that the technology works best on localized fat deposits on people who are not overweight, who work out regularly and have a good diet and exercise program.

Although our patients range from ages 25-65 years old, our average patient is about 40, and we have about the same number of men and women requesting SculpSure®. The areas that our patients request to be treated the most are the abdomen, flanks, bra line and thighs. SculpSure® is not typically used on the buttocks or the neck/face. There are other options available to deal with those problem areas if you are interested.

Many patients request a certain area of the body to be more aggressively "sculpted." If this is the desired goal, SculpSure® may be an option; but sometimes traditional liposuction, SmartLipo or VaserLipo might be a better choice. SculpSure® is a fat reduction treatment that helps eliminate fat in certain areas, not necessarily a treatment to "sculpt" the body.

You are a good candidate for SculpSure® if you can answer "yes" to these questions:

• You are healthy and a non-smoker
• You are between the ages of 18 and 70
• Your BMI (body mass index) is less than 30
• You have mild to moderate excess fat in the area of interest
