Migraines Are Such A Headache!

I hope this New Year finds our readers happy and feeling great! If that's not the case, Pulse Centers may be able to help! For those of you who have followed along with our articles over the last several months, you know we have focused on several different types of pain and how PEMF can help. Today, we'll be taking a close look at migraines.

The choice between being seated comfortably in a chair, or relaxing privately on a bed is made based on personal preference and specific characteristics of that individual's migraines.

First, let's review what PEMF is for those of you who may not be familiar. At Pulse Centers we provide drug free pain relief using a cutting edge technology called Pulsed Electro Magnetic Fields or PEMF. Our PEMF treatments supply energy the body needs to fuel its own healing potential. This energy is delivered directly to the cells through gentle pulses directed to the area of need. For a more in depth explanation, visit our website or look back at some of our previous articles.

Now, let's talk about the difference between migraines and regular headaches. Most true migraines begin with an aura. People tend to smell or hear things that aren't there, see flashing lights, or have the sense of being touched without an actual stimulus. Migraines can cause severe throbbing or shooting pain, and often it's isolated to one side or one area of the head. Migraine attacks can cause significant pain for hours or even days and can be so severe that the pain is disabling. The typical duration for migraines is 72 hours (3 days).

Now that we know what migraines are, let's look into what causes them to occur. There are often "triggers" that bring on migraines scents, smells, high pitch noises, bright lights, seasonal allergies, etc. The actual cause of migraines has to do with blood supply to the brain. First, the blood vessels that supply the brain constrict and diminish the amount of blood flowing to the brain. The body then tries to fix this by dilating those vessels this causes a rush of blood to the brain that produces the throbbing often associated with migraines.

Medical treatment of migraines is quite limited. Most migraine medications act as vasoconstrictors, helping to control the blood flow issue we just discussed. Typically speaking, these medications can only be taken at a certain stage of the migraine cycle, they do not help to prevent the migraines from occurring, and as with most medications there is a long list of side effects.

Using PEMF to address migraines is an alternative approach that's gaining more and more recognition as a modality of choice for people who suffer with chronic migraines. The advantages of PEMF over medications are numerous, but today I'll highlight two of the most significant: First, PEMF has been proven to PREVENT migraines, not just help them go away once they've started. Also, PEMF has been proven to regulate and improve blood flow which directly affects the migraine process.

I'm sure by now you're probably curious about what a migraine focused PEMF session entails. Allow me to start by saying that we don't use cookie cutter protocols. We approach each person and their unique situation individually and develop a PEMF regimen that works best for that individual. That being said, there are some standards that apply to most migraine cases. There are several ways to set up a migraine focused PEMF session, some of the most common are represented in the pictures here. The length of the session can be anywhere from 15 minutes to a full hour, depending on factors such as severity of migraines, tolerance to the pulses, and common triggers. Our number one factor is always maintaining the comfort level of the people who put their trust in us. Our pulses are very soothing and delivered in a comfortable environment. The frequency of sessions varies and would be addressed at your consultation appointment.

As with anything new, a degree of skepticism and hesitance is natural and even healthy. I encourage you to research PEMF yourself. Research specifically PEMF and migraines. We don't claim to have a magical remedy and we're not a here one day and gone the next gimmick. PEMF is a tested, researched, valid, non-medical approach to migraine relief among other things. If your quality of life is affected by migraines and you're not pleased with the results of the drugs you're taking consider the non-medical approach of PEMF.

At Pulse Centers we genuinely care FOR the people who walk through our doors by helping them improve their health and quality of life, but just as importantly we care ABOUT them as well. Call today for a free consultation and your first migraine-focused session at no cost. We look forward to meeting you and helping you find relief to the chronic migraines that are keeping you down!

Noteworthy:

We don't use cookie cutter protocols. We approach each person and their unique situation individually and develop a PEMF regimen that works best for that individual.
