IV Now brings nutrition, education to Chattanooga community

Raising your overall health and helping your body work to its best level possible are the two main goals for Rebekah s. Corey, DNP, APN, FNP-BC and her team at IV NOW located just off Shallow-ford Road.

IV NOW (Nutrition Optimizing Wellness) seeks to educate their cur-rent and potential patients on the importance and the great potential nutritional intravenous treatments can offer.

"The body can do remarkable things if it's given the right tools", Corey shared, noting that nutrition along with proper vitamins and minerals are key in all they do.

Dr. Corey has been in practice as a nurse practitioner since 1999 specializing in gastroenterology. She implemented the IV therapy program while employed with the Cen-ter for Digestive Disease and Disorders, providing infusions of biologic medication for Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis patients. She continued providing medical infusions for her patients, with these auto-immune diseases, when she opened up her private practice, Digestive Care and Management (DCM) in 2012. Since many other autoimmune diseases respond to the same medications, DCM now also infuses for providers in the fields of rhematology, dermatology, pulmonology and asthma.

Chronically ill patients or those having a disease process are ideal candidates for IV nutritional treatments, according to Corey. I started research-ing this aspect of health-care because I felt more could be done to treat chronic disease, such as my patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). After reviewing different organizations for available training, Dr. Corey chose International IV Nutritional Therapy because of their worldwide recognition and mission statement. For the last two years she traveled to California, participating in lectures and hands-on training for nutritional IV therapy, passing all requirements to receive her certificate.

"We're different from other IV treatment facilities because we treat both the immediate problem and long term needs", she said. "For example if someone is suffering from a migraine without resolution to symptoms, they can come and receive IV hydration, nausea and anti-inflammatory medications, along with O2 for relief". However, because many want to discover underlying causes of their symptoms, "we can evaluate their needs individually and devise a specific plan-of-care to help them return to their baseline optimum health status".

For convenience IV NOW can draw labs on-site and partners with PathGroup for the most common recommended tests. Patients can fol-low the lab results and see their progress during treatment. Finding out what vitamins or minerals a person may be insufficient or deficient in, allows precise treatment without giving unnecessary supplementation.

One of the most popular preventative treatments is high dose vitamin C, which has been shown to be very effective to maintain energy levels, improve skin, boost the immune system, strengthen bones and ten-dons, and fight chemotherapy side effects. Most adults can only tolerate 250 mg daily of Vitamin C, and of that oral dose only about 10% will be absorbed. High dose IV Vitamin C will range from 2,500 mg to 5,000 mg, and 100% is absorbed. IV NOW fol-lows protocols developed and recommended by International IV Nutritional Therapy, who have many years of experience and safety data.

Another service offered by IV NOW is use of a Bio-Mat, which uses state-of-the-art far infrared light and negative ion technology combined with the healing power of amethyst crystals to uniquely regenerate your cells by directing you own DNA to correct itself. This process helps you to restore and maintain optima health, pain relief and deep relaxation by just lying on the mat. Head-sets with relaxation tapes are available for use during this treatment.

For those concerned about dietary recommendations, Dr. Corey believes in a healthy, well-balance diet with portion control. "Unfortunately, most of our food choices are filled with preservatives, additives, substitutes and empty calories. Even when obtaining fresh produce the nutritional values are not what they once use to be". Over time your body is no longer equipped with the tools needed to keep your health at an optimum level, which is to provide the best defense system and protection against harmful insults and attacks on the body.

When it comes to cost for their services, it's actually much less expensive than most would think. Often times it is less than an out-of-pocket co-pay for insurance covered procedures. "I really want people look at natural alternatives and see them as complimentary to what they may already be doing with mainstream medicine. It does not have to be one or the other, and is so powerful when utilized together.

IV NOW is currently expanding their space and will soon offer a sick room with its own ventilation system and a separate entrance to help protect the spread of infection while continuing to serve healthy clients. A future vision will be to serve the needs of athletes, such as marathon runners, at events where IV hydration would be beneficial.
