Pediatric surgeon Dr. Michael Carr of University Surgical Associates has received an Emergency Medical Services for Children 2009 Heroes Award, given this week at a banquet in Alexandria, Va.
Emergency Medical Services for Children is a national initiative that aims to reduce childhood death and disability due to severe illness or injury. The Heroes Award recognizes achievement in emergency medical services for children.
The organization selects physicians who are "compassionate, tireless advocates who have made a real difference within the pediatric health care community at the local, state and national levels," according to a news release from University Surgical Associates, or USA.
"I can think of no one more deserving of this award than Dr. Carr," Dr. Pete Kelley, pediatric surgeon with USA, said in the release. "Throughout his career, Dr. Carr has single-handedly done more to advance the quality of pediatric trauma and emergency care in the state of Tennessee than any other physician I know."
USA, a surgical specialty practice in Chattanooga, has 31 surgeons.
