Lifetouch Studios sends packages to troops

What: Employees of the Chattanooga lab of Lifetouch National School Studios packed 350 care packages as part of their "Give Back" holiday event. Benefits: Military troops in Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq. Donors: Employees as well as Bearing Precious Seed, Certified Maintenance Service, Chattanooga Choo-Choo Holiday Inn, Chattem, Country Inn & Suites, Farley's & Sathers, Five-Star Foods, Frito-Lay, Fuji Film, Holiday Inn Express East Ridge, Lighthouse Lithographics Printing, McKee Baking, Dr. Michael R. Johnson, Outsource Staffing and Walgreens in Ooltewah.

Kids ring in new year at noon

What: Creative Discovery Museum held its 10th annual New Year's Eve party for children, ringing in 2010 at noon.

Highlights: Arrival of Father Time and Baby New Year, Saxophobia led parade of children playing "Auld Lang Syne" on kazoos, kids made party hats, confetti drop at noon.

Auction boosts Northside Neighborhood House

What: About 300 guests attended Taste of North Shore - Sample of Southside & Not-so-Silent Auction held at The Mill.

Benefits: Raised $22,000 for Northside Neighborhood House.

Participants: Guests sampled specialties from Alleia, Aquarium Foods Catering, Between the Bridges Cafe, Bi-Lo Signal Mountain, Bluewater Grille, Buffalo Wild Wings, Cafe on the Corner, Events With Taste, Food Works, Lupi's, Modern Dave's Cafe, Porter's Steakhouse, St. John's Restaurant, St. John's Meeting Place, Subway-Frazier Avenue, Swiss-AM Fine Catering, The Big Table, The Public House, Tremont Tavern and 212 Market.

Items up for bids: Sterling-silver jewelry, a leather jacket, personal training sessions, photography packages, haircuts, a case of wine, gourmet desserts, Titans tickets, massages, a round of golf for four, theater tickets, weekend getaways and gift cards to local merchants.

Scrapbookers crop for a cure

What: The first ScrapBlue: Crop for a Cure was held at Stuart Heights Baptist Church, drawing scrapbook hobbyists of all ages for 12 hours of scrapbooking and learning new techniques. Benefits: $1,400 was donated to the Chattanooga Prostate Cancer Walk. Highlights: Goody bags, massages, silent auction, lunch from Olive Garden and dinner from O'Charley's.

ABOUT NORTHSIDE NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE

The nonprofit assists with emergency needs for utilities, food or prescription medications. It also offers educational programs for children and adults and operates two thrift stores. The mission of the United Way partner is to promote independence of residents living north of the river.
