Living history re-enactors at Point Park Sept. 4-5

The 16th Alabama Regiment will present a living history weekend at Point Park on Lookout Mountain on Sept. 4-5.

The volunteer re-enactors will conduct infantry demonstrations and programs about the life of soldiers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Rifle-firing demonstrations will be held at 10 and 11:30 a.m., 1:30, 2:30 and 4 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday's demonstrations will take place at 10 and 11:30 a.m., 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.

The 16th Alabama participated in the 1862 battles of Shiloh, Perryville and Murfreesboro. As part of Sterling A.M. Wood's Brigade, the regiment suffered a 58 percent casualty rate at Chickamauga.

Last call to vote for park

Supporters of Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park can help the park win a $100,000 grant by voting online for "America's Favorite Park" before Tuesday.

Vote at www.livepositively.com. There is no limit on the number of times one can vote.

The contest is part of a partnership between the National Park Foundation and Coca-Cola.

In addition to the grant, Coke is matching donations made to the National Park Foundation at www.livepositively.com, up to $25,000.
