PET OF THE WEEK: A GOOD HEAD FOR TRICKS

Holly loves her food, but unlike some dogs this 7-year-old golden retriever can wait patiently for her first bite.

"She knows many tricks, but her best trick is to have treats, like pieces of pancake, placed on top of her head," said her owner, Julie Adolph. "She will freeze with the food on her head until we say, 'OK,'" then all bets are off."

The Adolphs have had Holly since she was about 7 weeks old. Though she's timid around strangers, she has loved the Adolphs' three children, now teenagers, since the day she was brought home, family members said. That's the great thing about goldens, Adolph said.

"We'd heard so many good things about them," she added. "How they are great with kids and just a good family dog."

The breed is also know for intelligence.

"It's like she knows exactly what we are saying," Adolph said. "I can be sitting and say to the girls, 'OK, girls, it is time for us to go.' Holly will get up and go to her room where her blanket is and lie down."
