Talk by alumnus Paul Turner highlights Raymond Witt Lecture Series at UTC

Three days of events begin Monday on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in conjunction with Perspectives 2010: The Raymond B. Witt Lecture Series. This year's theme is "Let It Be UTC -- 40 Years and Counting."

This annual series is presented by the Perspectives planning committee through the UTC Division of Student Development, and funded by the Witt-Bagley Endowment Fund. Events are free and open to the public.

* Monday, 4 p.m. Take a walking tour with Dr. Gavin Townsend to discover UTC campus architecture; call 425-4455 for starting location.

* Monday, 7 p.m., and Tuesday, 2 p.m. Free screenings of "M.A.S.H.," the 1970 comedy about an Army medical unit, in the University Center Auditorium.

* Tuesday, 12:15 p.m. Attend a political science class with Paul Turner, UTC University Honors graduate who works for the U.S. Department of State in conflict resolution and foreign service; University Center's Chattanooga Rooms.

Mr. Turner is one of four conflict prevention officers in the Office of the Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization.

He facilitates the application of the Interagency Conflict Assessment Framework and during the last year led interagency assessments on Yemen and Liberia. He also deployed to Afghanistan to support the development of integrated civilian-military plans at the provincial, task force, regional command and national levels.

* Wednesday,1 p.m. Meet the UTC community from the early '70s for hot chocolate and coffee as they share humorous stories; University Center Commons.

* Wednesday, 2 p.m. "Remembrances and Recollections"" by Dr. Kit Rushing and Steve Cox, interviews with longtime UTC professors and staff; University Center's Chattanooga Rooms.

* Wednesday, 9 p.m. Free showing of "HAIR," the 1979 story of Vietnam draftee who befriends hippies on his way to an Army induction center; University Center Auditorium.
