Chattanooga entertainment this week includes beards, birds and baseball

BARRY COURTER: Lisa, JJ's Bohemia has a show that combines two of your favorite things tonight, laughs and beards.

LISA DENTON: Yep, and it's not just beards and laughs, but FOUR men with beards who can make me laugh. I'm thinking my odds are pretty good.

The Beards of Comedy, as they are known, are four fuzzy-faced young men who use stand-up, music, sketch and improv in their routines. I believe this is their first stop in Chattanooga, but their press material says they've sold out shows in national markets. It's a pretty safe bet they can do that tonight at JJ's. What'll that place hold? Like 20?

BARRY: It is an intimate setting to be sure, but it's also a cool place that brings in some good acts.

We should also mention that the Lookouts open their season Thursday with a five-game series at home. You can get a sneak peek of the team Tuesday against the nationally second-ranked Chattanooga State Tigers in an exhibition game. Games start at 7:15.

LISA: And don't forget Lake Winnepesauakah, the happy place to be, opens Friday. The schedule is spotty until May, when the amusement park begins its Thursday-Sunday schedule. They'll add Wednesdays in June and July.

I love that you can ride the Cannon Ball roller coaster time after time without standing in line all day. Eventually, I even manage not to duck at that last little hill when it appears we'll all be decapitated as the coaster surges into the station.

BARRY: The Chattanooga Nature Center will focus on birds and flowers April 9, 16, 23, 30, and May 7 and 14 with its Wake Up With the Birds series. You'd almost think spring was here, but I'm not convinced. I'm ready for the rain and cold to go away.

LISA: You know, if you'd grow a beard, maybe the rain and cold wouldn't bother you so much. I'm just saying.
