'Leap Into Art'

'Leap Into Art'

December 25th, 2011 by Staff Report in Life Entertainment

During January, the 36 artist members of In-Town Gallery will exhibit artworks that reference the theme of leap year.

Linda Thomas has created a series of intaglio etchings of rabbits, toads and frogs, while Jennie Kirkpatrick painted a watercolor of the leaping fountains in Coolidge Park. Janis Wilkey was inspired by the waters of Bald River Falls near Tellico Plains for her series of oil paintings.

Fiber artist Linda White portrays a leaping lizard in one of her textiles, and Mary Clor designed a piece of jewelry to represent the theme. The brilliant colors in Paul Fontana's work and in Helen Brooks' collages literally "leap out" to catch the viewer's attention.

An opening reception for "Leap Into Art" will be held Jan. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. The show will continue through January.

In-Town Gallery, Chattanooga's oldest cooperative gallery, is at 26 Frazier Ave. Hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Call 267-9214 for more information.
