Opening Friday at In-Town Gallery is an exhibition of new work by Cleveland artist Jennie Kirkpatrick. Titled "Party in the Paint Box," the show debuts a series of collages constructed of vibrantly colored geometric shapes.

Kirkpatrick works out her design for a large watercolor collage by first making a small-scale painting. Then, on watercolor paper, she creates the final artwork combining metallics, archival inks and pieces cut from the preparatory painting.

"The gaily colored shapes and patterns are lyrical and create a festive mood rather than depicting realistic subject matter," said Kirkpatrick "There is very little use of deep space or shadow, as color and design dominate the picture plane."

The exhibit continues through April 30. A reception will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

In-Town Gallery, 26 Frazier Ave., is open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Call 267-9214.
