SHUPTRINE FINE Art Group hosted Florence (Italy) Academy of Art Instructor Hunter Eddy at the gallery for a new exhibition and artist demonstration, said gallery spokeswoman Grace Reynolds.
The exhibition, Hunter Eddy -- Pearls, is on display at the gallery.
Eddy, a native of Vermont and graduate of the Art Institute of Boston, also studied under artist Daniel Graves at the Italian academy before becoming an instructor, Reynolds said.
While in Chattanooga, the artist held a six-hour class that focused on a teaching method derived from "the classical-Realist tradition, rooted in the Renaissance, and revived by the major Realist academic ateliers of the 19th century," Reynolds said.
After graduating from the Art Institute of Boston, Eddy relocated to Florence, Italy, to study and then teach at the Florence Academy of Art where he is an advanced painting and drawing instructor. His work has been exhibited and sold at various galleries, is included in private collections internationally and is represented by Shuptrine's, Reynolds said.

Ear to the Ground
IF YOU HAVEN'T spent much time downtown lately, there's a group of folks who want you to see how the area has become not only a good place to work, but also to live and play.
Daytrip Downtown, an event that will highlight the downtown experience will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., said event spokeswoman Teresa Groves,
There will be tours of homes decorated for the holidays, and some downtown restaurants, shops and hotels will offer discounts during the weekend, said Groves, executive officer of the Home Builders Association of Southern Tennessee.
"Daytrip Downtown offers patrons VIP access to apartments, condos, townhomes and free-standing homes," she said.
Participating in the tour are One North Shore, The Terrace at Frazier, Museum Bluffs Parkview, Riverset Apartments, Walnut Hill Townhomes, Harrington Place, Southside at Jefferson Commons and Southside Village. Decorators of the homes are Delores Wolfe, Sophie's, Tony Thompson Design and the Clay Pot.
Tickets are $8 in advance at daytripdown town.com, local BB&T branches and downtown businesses Blue Skies, Ice Cream Show, Merchants on Main and Shadowbox Paperie.
Saturday and Sunday, tickets will be available for $10 at CARTA's Shuttlepark, NorthShore on Frazier Avenue, Shuttlepark North at the Visitor's Center (former Bijou Theater) or Shuttlepark South at the Chattanooga Choo-Choo.
