Watercolor workshops by Daud Akhriev

Watercolor workshops by Daud Akhriev

August 3rd, 2012 by Staff Report in Life Entertainment

Former Chattanooga resident Daud Akhriev, who recently moved to Spain, will be back in town for a limited time this summer. During his visit, he will be teaching watercolor workshops at Townsend Atelier, 201 W. Main St.

A prolific painter and sculptor, Akhriev was trained in the Russian Classical school, where watercolor is the media to conquer first. Without that, the students are not allowed to proceed to oil.

Because watercolor is not a forgiving discipline, he said, it sharpens your concentration when you work. Akhriev painted exclusively in watercolor during his four years of study before he worked with oils.

In the two-day workshops, Akhriev will teach painting techniques taught in the Russian Classical school. Students may paint from a still life or a live model.

According to a news release, the workshop will include "lots of demonstrations focusing on blending, color mixing, protecting areas you do not want to blend, as well as composition, silhouette and techniques on mastering watercolor in general."

Workshop dates are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday or Aug. 11-12. Cost is $200 for either session.
