Labor Day Soiree

Parkridge East Hospital's annual Labor Day Soiree will be at 9 a.m. on Aug. 25. The event includes a tour of The Birth Place, First Things First parenting class, panel discussion on pregnancy and newborn health, and a special "Labor Day" baby shower for expectant moms. Autistic children safety outing

Autistic children and their families are invited to tour the Chattanooga Police Service Center, 3410 Amnicola Highway at 10 a.m. on Aug. 2. Cancer prevention study

Enrollment for the American Cancer Society's third Cancer Prevention Study will be Aug. 21-25 in Chattanooga at several locations. Diabetes classes

• Diabetes education class, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., today, at Erlanger Chattanooga Lifestyle Center. This class will explore ways to manage diabetes. Call 778-9400 for information on physician referral and insurance reimbursement.

• Diabetes basics and diet class. This program provides an overview of diabetes, treatment, prevention of complications, diabetes meal planning and carbohydrate counting. 8:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Friday, at Diabetes and Nutrition Center at Memorial Hospital. Parkridge classes

• Infant/child CPR class, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, at Parkridge East Hospital. American Heart Association class is taught by a Basic Life Support Instructor. This course includes what to do if your infant or child stops breathing or begins to choke, discussion of injury prevention and practice time on mannequins. • Tour of the Birth Place at Parkridge East Hospital, 1-2 p.m., Saturday. See the labor and delivery area and mother/baby area (based on availability). Vascular screening

Get an ultrasound of the carotid artery and abdominal aorta, and have the circulation in your legs measured in an attempt to prevent arterial disease, stroke and aneurysm. For ages 50 and over with one of following risk factors: family history of heart disease, vascular disease or stroke; high cholesterol or taking cholesterol medication; high blood pressure or taking blood pressure medication; diabetes; and/or current or previous smoker.
