Kids Time, Young Explorers start next week in area parks

Hamilton County Parks and Recreation Department will begin two programs for children next week. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Young Explorers, for ages 3-6, meets 10-11 a.m. Tuesdays (skipping July 3) at the Enterprise South Nature Park, 8015 Volkswagen Drive. Cost is $3 per child.

Kids Time is a free program for ages 5-10 that meets at 10 a.m. Thursdays at the Tennessee Riverpark, Shelter No. 4, 4301 Amnicola Highway.

Young Explorers

Activities are based on the "Growing Up Wild" program to introduce youngsters to nature. Closed-toed shoes are required. Hats, sunscreen and bug repellent are recommended. Register at 842-6748.

The program topics are:

• Tuesday: "What's Wild: Wild vs. Tame Animals."

• June 19: "Wildlife Water Safari."

• June 26: "Nature Drawings."

• July 10: "Show Me the Energy."

• July 17: "Water, Water Everywhere."

• July 24: "Worms."

Kids Time

This series is designed for hands-on learning. Registration is not required, but groups of eight or more must call ahead, 842-6748.

The program topics are:

• Thursday: "Nature Drawings."

• June 21: "Down on the Farm."

• June 28: "Read-Aloud" (includes a free book).

• July 5: "Let's Make Ice Cream."

• July 12: "Grow As We Grow."

• July 19: "Water Works."

• July 26: "Read-Aloud" (includes a free book).
