Try as the world might, it just can't seem to change the youth he deals with, said Jay Fowler, director of the Greater Chattanooga/Southeast Tennessee chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

"We continue to have some amazing student athletes that just reflect the core values of FCA," he said. "They've been known to show integrity and teamwork and service and excellence, FCA's core values."

On Monday, the local chapter will name its Christian Athlete of the Year and present $6,000 in scholarships as part of its 49th annual Night of Champions at 6:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 554 McCallie Ave.

The evening honors senior nominees from public and private high schools in a seven-county area.

The cost is $5, and the public is invited. There is no charge for FCA huddle coaches and Athlete of the Year candidates.

"[The candidates] go beyond their stats on the field or their GPAs," Fowler said. "It's incredible the accomplishments of this group. This has been another great class [of seniors], a group of wonderful young people serving and leading FCA in all our schools and in other ministries as well."

The money for the scholarships is provided by the Maclellan Foundation.

The Gerry Stephens Influence Award, Jim Sattler Leadership Award, Legacy Builder Coaches Award and Church Partner of the Year Award also will be presented.
