Relocated Sekisui offers tempting lunch specials

The takeout order from Sekisui Chattanooga included a Spicy Tuna Roll and a Rainbow Roll.

Soon after Table 2 announced in February it was closing, Sekisui moved from its spot near the Tennessee Aquarium to the vacated building on Houston Street, which happens to be just around the corner from the newspaper's offices.

I got around to making the 100-yard walk this week, and I'm glad I did. Next time I will eat in and try the lunch special. What I ordered was pricey, but for my first visit, I wanted something familiar so I could compare it to other sushi spots I've sampled.

I like sushi, a lot, but I don't consider myself an expert in its nuances. Regardless, my order was deliciously fresh and flavor-packed.

The friendly server who checked out my order asked if I wanted any other condiments or sauces besides soy sauce and wasabi, and I asked for white sauce. After the first bite of the spicy tuna, I realized dipping it into the white sauce would have overwhelmed the wonderfully subtle flavors. I stuck with the wasabi and ginger and very little soy.

I ate most of the rainbow pieces as they were because they were that good.

The prices at Sekisui might scare some folks off, but the restaurant also offers a Pick Two for $8 lunch special that includes soup, salad, rice and one choice each from a list of rolls and a list of entrees. Other combinations are available at lunch, too. These are a good way for the newbie to sample sushi also. Get an entree you're familiar with and try something new off the roll offerings.
