On Monday, Nov. 5, Grammy Award-winning folk/rock vocalist Judy Collins will take the stage as the opening performer in Athens Area Council for the Arts' Big Time Small Town performance season.

A Seattle native, Collins, 71, began performing in the late '50s. She is best known as an interpreter of other artists' works, including a 1967 rendition of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" that has been entered in the Grammy Hall of Fame. In addition to folk and rock covers, Collins also became a respected interpreter of show tunes. Her cover of Stephen Sondheim's "Send in the Clowns," which was written for the Broadway musical "A Little Night Music," was named Song of the Year at the 1975 Grammys.

Collins will be followed in the Big Time Small Town series by a Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra holiday concert on Dec. 4, Motown revue Masters of Motown on Jan. 8 and Hawaiian ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro on March 21.
