Historical Society auction to benefit Hamilton House

The Whitfield-Murray Historical Society will sponsor an auction Nov. 10 to raise funds for the historic Hamilton House, Dalton, Georgia's oldest residence.

The first-time event will feature a wide range of quality items, including vintage furniture, Civil War art prints, decorative items and vintage toys, according to spokeswoman Jennifer Detweiler.

The auction will be held at the Crown Gardens and Archives Building, 715 Chattanooga Ave., with preview days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday.

The furniture includes pianos, an organ, chairs, tables, desks and office furniture. Credenzas, a steamer trunk, rugs, tapestries and dishes also are available, as well as "Gone With the Wind" memorabilia and other commemorative plates and dolls.

The framed prints include one of the Men of the Fifth Georgia Civil War unit, titled "Clinch Rifles"; one of Gen. Robert E. Lee by William L. Maughan titled "The Christian General"; and another titled "Lee and His Generals."

Several other framed artworks that are not Civil War related also are available.
