Guest artists, masterworks on Chatt State music calendar

The Music Department at Chattanooga State Community College will present three concerts featuring guest artists within the next eight days. All performances take place in the Humanities Theatre on the main campus, 4501 Amnicola Highway.

-- Saturday: The David Walters Jazz Trio will perform the great jazz standards at 7:30 p.m. The trio features David Walters on piano, Gordy Nichol on bass and Jo Whitaker on drums.

-- Tuesday: The Chattanooga State Concert Choir will present a masterworks concert featuring Eric Whitacre's "Five Hebrew Songs" at 7:30 p.m.

The concert also features clarinetist Nick Harline playing Gerald Finzi's Clarinet Concerto, Op. 31, as well as performances by mezzo-soprano Jennifer Arbogast and sopranos Amanda Hyberger and Christine Hassevoort.

Members of the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera also will be on hand for a collaboration featuring music of the 20th century.

-- Oct. 27: A vocal concert at 7:30 p.m. features guest artists Beth DuRoy and Melissa Larkin Schultz in a duo recital titled "A Woman's Life: A Journey in Song." The two sopranos will be accompanied by pianist Jason DuRoy.

Admission is free to all performances.
