EAR TO THE GROUND

CHATTANOOGA Area Model Railroad Club will host an open house and train sale, featuring several of the most popular scales, Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Town Hall Theatre at the Chattanooga Choo-Choo.

According to organization president Jim Bailiff, club members will be there to answer questions about the hobby as well as present demonstrations and mini-clinics about scenery, wiring, electronics and locomotive maintenance.

"Participants will be given a free ticket to tour the model railroad layout that is one of the largest in the Southeast," Bailiff said. "They will see the hobby in action as multiple trains travel the eight main lines of the model pike. With Christmas only a few weeks after the show, this will be a great time for model engineers to get ideas from veterans of the hobby."

NORTHSIDE NEIGHBORHOOD House will hold its fall fundraising evening event, Taste of Northshore -- Sample of Southside & the Not-So-Silent Auction, Oct. 18 from 6-9 p.m. at Track 29.

"We are meeting our neighbors' needs with the most basic forms of assistance, like utility payments and emergency food, while also working through budgeting to enable them to be better prepared for future bumps in the road. Children and adults also are receiving the support they need to thrive and be successful through our education programs."

There will be silent and live auctions with auction items posted at nnhouse.org.

Tickets, $55 per person, are available online at nnhouse.org or by contacting Northside Neighborhood House at 267-2217.
