THINGS I WISH MY KIDS WOULD ASK ME

EDITOR'S NOTE: Barry Courter has a 23-year-old son who graduated from college last year and a 19-year-old daughter who is a freshman in college.

Q: Dad, I'm dealing with things I never did before, like insurance, leases and contracts. What are the things to look out for?

A: Always get things in writing and try not to sign up for things over the phone. Always get more than one quote or option and ask around. Sales people will try to get you to sign up for more than you need. Asking friends, family and coworkers can help prevent you from buying too much.
