Q: Dad, what’s the difference between saving, collecting and hoarding?

A: You’ve been going through my stuff again, haven’t you? Seriously, I know you are asking because we are going through your grandparents’ things. I think there are two answers to the question. If you have the room — and I mean a clean, safe place that is out of the way — to keep it, then keep it. Stacking it on the floor doesn’t count. The flip side is, if it hasn’t been touched in the last year, or it won’t be touched again in the next 12 months, throw it away. The real answer is somewhere in between.
