Steinway concert features local pianists

Three local students are among 14 Carson-Newman University musicians performing on Sunday for the Steinway Society of Knoxville at American Piano Gallery in Knoxville.

They are Hannah Davis of Hixson, David Hill of Harrison and Leigh Jones of Rossville.

Gibson wins study abroad award

Brianna Gibson of Ringgold, Ga., has received a scholarship from the American Institute for Foreign Study. Gibson, an animal science major, plans to volunteer with a wildlife rescue facility.


Holsinger conducting All-State Blue Band

David Holsinger, director of bands at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., has been named conductor for the Blue Band at this weekend's East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra All-State Clinic in Gatlinburg, Tenn.

Other honor band conductors will be Gary Gilroy of California State University in Fresno, Nola Jones from the University of Tennessee at Martin and Susan Walters of Oliver Middle School in Nashville. All-State Orchestra will be directed by Alexander Jimenez of Florida State University.

The bands will perform from 1-5 p.m. Saturday at Park Vista Hotel in Gatlinburg. There is no charge for admission.


Lee students win concerto competition

Lee University students Si Yao Li and Janet Yu were selected as winners in Southern Adventist University's Orchestra Concerto Competition.

Li is a freshman music performance major, studying piano under Ning An. She has been playing violin since the age of 6 and has won numerous competitions in her native China.

Yu, also a freshman music performance major and student of Ning An, has been playing piano since age 5 and has won many competitions in her native Taiwan.
